CD : Bew Kalayanee - buntuek pleng ruk
Bew Kalayanee's third CD for R-Siam. Now i am a fan of Bew and got what i was expecting and hoping for with this CD, a collection of gutsily sung "hard" lukthung songs with a rock edge. "Ngai kern pai" is a perfect example of this and is the best track on here. A great chorus and melody performed well.
"Kwarm ruk sri dum" is another good track with a fancy guitar opening and a comfortable melody. Sounds great in the car. Songs like "Sao tar glom" also have great tunes to bop your head to but are less rockish which is no problem. "Young jum wai" is a good example of a slow song, showcasing Bew's rich voice. Memorable melodies you can hum along to. Easily Bew's best album to date.

CD : P Saderd - jikko num kao
P Saderd's latest Grammy album, it includes a number of songs with a good-time rocky lukthung vibe such as "Kwam tong karn tang paed soong" which has a very easy and, dare we say it, sing-a-long-able (is that a word) melody. Some songs have a bit of musical whimsy behind them such as "Aow pla kon" and make you want to dance, or try to anyway.
"Ruk khon tho ma jung luey" is a more serious musically song, a good straight forward rock-edged song with a slow beat and some tasty guitar. Its the stand-out track on the album but there are other highlights such as "Nuey der...kao jai nor" which also has some great chords and a bit of an epic air. Well basically there are a lot of good songs on here and plenty of musical variety. Very enjoyable listening.

CD : Earn The Star - bud chern khong kwarm kid tueng
Earn was one of the singers in the Star 2 contest (apparently, i didn't get that TV show!) I first noticed her when one of her songs appeared on a Grammy compilation and it was by a long way the worst song on the album! So her full debut i approached with some trepidation...
Earn certainly looks cute and her music is just like that too, cute. Pop edged and easy to listen to. The title track for example is a nice fast tempo song with a good chorus and melody. Earn's vocals are pretty good though and she is definitely not just a pretty face. "Toh ha krung sood tai" is a slower and much more luk thung song and is sung very competently. She has a nice tone to her voice and the music is enjoyable if not very adventurous.
Its a corporate success, maybe we can say that. Its slick and shiny and got plenty of money behind it. The album lacks the rougher more "real" feel of some artists especially away from the Grammy/R-Siam nexus but is worth having. You can't be radical all the time.
Rating : 7.2/10

CD : Various - Luk thung nong mai tai dao
Five new faces on this Grammy showcase, as you might expect on a CD like this it is a bit hit & miss. Each artist (1 guy and 4 girls) gets 2 songs each. The first song by Pu Sriwilai is maybe the best of the lot. "Ber kao yung fao ror" is a powerful and memorable lukthung song. I'm sure we'll hear more from this guy.
Another good song is "Mue dai si ma" by Newkoi Kannika which is sung well and has a good melody. Not all the singers are that stellar, Kawthip Thidadin looks good but her singing doesn't quite match up to it, but its unfair to judge too harshly on just 2 songs so lets hope we hear more from all of these.
Rating : 7.7/10
