Ajareeya Bussaba อาจารียา บุษบา - subparode

Ajareeya's latest (6th album) and the second album of the latest stage of her career. Unlike her previous album which was a little more daring and experimented with different styles this album is a little safer, more like her earlier work. Very well done of course but the album overall is not quite as good as last time.

A song like "Mua nim" is a decent enough mid-paced track that bounces out with a bit of trademark Ajareeya energy and spice. The title track is a little more interesting though, a fast song again but with some nice guitar. "Luem nong leaw ka" interestingly mixes some traditional sounds with some hard beats. Its full of the usual infectious energy you expect from Ajareeya and good enough but personally i think this album could have been a little bit more...

MV : "Jam jon tai" by Ajareeya Bussaba หลิว อาจารียา

I am really loving Ajareeya's latest album and this song is my current favourite off of it. Its a very unusual song for her though, with it's off-the-wall piano notes and bluesy laid back feel. In fact the song reminds me of the kind of songs Sunita Leetikul does. Now as Sunita is my favourite Thai pop/rock singer then that ensures i really love this song!

Nice video too even though it resembles a travelogue a bit. Waterwheels rock.

CD : Ajareeya Bussaba อาจารียา บุษา - hua jai... mee ngarn kao

Ajareeya's comeback (and 5th album), eagerly awaited by myself and i am sure many people and it does not disappoint. The album starts off with some blistering fast tracks including the rollicking title track with it's pounding percussion and piercing vocals and sheer energy. An amazing way to start the album as is the following "Taeng ngarn kun hur". A good fast song with some interesting musical touches. "Bon jao mae" has more, with plenty of traditional instrumentation and a modern fast beat. This album is very adventurous musically, as if cut free of U2 Ajareeya is free to explore a more interesting sound.

"Aab ruk nai hua" is a slow song which comes in 2 versions, and a nice pop song if a bit too basic compared to these other songs but certainly by no means bad. "Jum jon tai" is really something though, sounding like Sunita Leetikul (another favourite of mine) with it's laid back bluesy soul feel. A terrific song and miles away from anything Ajareeya did before. "Jer tae ngoo" returns us to fast songs, before Ajareeya's forte though on this album she has come a long way and is equally comfortable on slower songs too.

So great fast songs and greater slow songs. This is the best Ajareeya album by far and maybe the best album all year. She looks great too, but unlike a lot of artists can back it up on record. Essential.

CD : Ajareeya Bussaba อาจารียา บุษา - job kao

This is the last Ajareeya album to date as far as i know but there are signs a new one is coming soon, anyway this is a very enjoyable album with the fast dancey numbers you expect from Ajareeya but also a couple of really good slower songs. Lets start with the fast songs, "Kammarthep mue mhai" is a good example. A good beat and tune well delivered, great chorus too. "Mai ruk luey lhor" has some nice guitar work. The title track, which starts the album off, also has a great tune and Ajareeya's vocals sounding as good as ever.

I prefer slower songs however and this album has a couple of great ones. "Mai roo wah ruk" is a sweet acoustic song, well sung and a sad tone. The best track, and to my mind the best Ajareeya song of all, is "Ploi pai tung jai ruk" with it's sad ballad air and terrific guitar work. MV is superb too. I hope any future Ajareeya albums work off this as the results could be fantastic.

MV : "Poo chai mai chai lhek kar nid" by Ajareeya Bussaba อาจารียา บุษา

Lights, camera, action. Plenty of action as usual in Ajareeya's MV. She has more energy than Duracell.

CD : Ajareeya Bussaba อาจารียา บุษา - dancer 3 katah kor jai

The dynamo of lukthung Ajareeya Bussaba, on her third album back in 2005 she gave us the usual high energy and highly danceable fast lukthung songs like "Poo chai mai chai lhek kar nid" which has her trademark voice. Maybe not quite the best voice in the world (though not by any means bad) but compensates with young girl charm and plenty of energy and vitality. I do enjoy Ajareeya's slower songs though (not that she does that many of them), one example here is "Pid term hua jai" which has a nice tinkly backing and some sweet vocals.

Of course thats just an extra, what Ajareeya is really all about is on songs like "Yim korn lar", fast and very listenable dancey faire. Coupled to a very colourful and visual video of course. I could not mention the album's title track with it's Chinese influences and the tune which was used by Hit Station for their jingles for a time. Its a very good tune. Actually the whole album is very good. Lets hope for a new album by her soon.

Best of 2007 (1) : Top 5 Music Videos

These, in our opinion, are the top 5 music videos in Thai lukthung this year.

1) Kratae - perd jai sao tae

How can it be any other video really? Kick boxing on an underground train? Excellent! The choreography of the dancing and fighting matches the music perfectly.

2) Takkatan Cholada - mai chai fan tum taen mai dai

Takkatan Cholada

This video really tugs the heart strings, she thinks the guy she loves loves her too, she runs up the stairs to see him... but the guy has got back with his ex. Heartbreak!

3) Tai Orratai - kho khae ru khaow

Tai Orratai - kho khae ru khaow

Always loved this video both for the triple view of Tai and the sequence when Tai switches places with the girl to sing to that dumb dude.

4) Ajareeya Bussada - ploi pai tung jai ruk

Ajareeya Bussada - ploi pai tung jai ruk

The bit where the guy reaches up to Leew and she thinks he loves her again but then he just adjusts her hair. The expression on Leew's face... well its true heartbreak!

5) Pee Saderd - jee hoi

Pee Saderd - jee hoi

Fantastic dancing girls and magical weirdness going on. Job done!

MV : "Ploi pai tung jai ruk" by Ajareeya Bussada

How sweet Ajareeya looks in this MV, and what a sad song! A new album from her must be due soon, its now just over a year since the last one.
